Child safety
Japanily is designed for supervised classroom learning with restrictive defaults and moderated public editorial features.
Last updated 13 September 2026
Built-in protections
- No public student profile directory, direct messaging or advertising.
- Public news, polls, quizzes and learning previews are separate from private classroom records. Reader ideas enter a moderation queue and are not automatically published.
- Students join a teacher-controlled class using a short code and an account.
- Classroom access is limited by ownership and membership. A teacher can explicitly authorise a colleague to review a scoped learner observation, without sharing the whole roster or history.
- Live sessions are host-controlled, capacity-limited and use private real-time channels.
- Learning results are calculated by the server rather than trusted from the student browser.
For younger learners
Temporary guest quizzes use a separate private invitation, generated labels and explicit teacher admission. They use short polling updates rather than the account games’ private Realtime channels. A guest cannot open classroom assignments or personal vocabulary, and guest scores do not earn permanent rewards. Teachers should check each label with its learner before admitting it, keep invitations private, remove unexpected guests and end the room after use. An invitation and label do not verify a learner’s identity.
Ask your teacher or parent which account and nickname to use. Keep class codes and passwords private. Do not put your name, school, address or contact details in a public question or idea. If something feels wrong, stop and tell a trusted adult. Voice practice is optional; recordings stay in the current browser tab and are not uploaded by Japanily.
Safe classroom use
Use school-approved display names rather than full legal names. Do not place sensitive, identifying, offensive or copyrighted material in study sets. Teachers should supervise live games, remove unexpected participants and end the room after use. Join codes should be shared only with the intended class.
Report a concern
Email puttosensei@gmail.com with “Japanily safety report” in the subject. Include the class or room context but do not email student passwords. Immediate danger should be reported to local emergency services; Australian online-safety concerns may also be reported to the eSafety Commissioner.
Response
We triage reports, preserve only necessary evidence, restrict affected access where possible and notify the relevant school or individuals when appropriate. Safety and privacy incidents follow the documented incident-response process.
Japanily is not yet school-production approved. Read the school-readiness evidence and outstanding decisions before planning a rollout.
